Best Of ‘09: my dad’s “On the Marc Pizza”

by Christine Bougie | December 22nd, 2009

Today’s Best of 2009 Blog Challenge prompt is…

Startup. What’s a business that you found this year that you love? Who thought it up? What makes it special?

In 2008, my dad shocked me by quitting his job.  The job he’d been doing since I was born was just killing him -  running a pizza business, managing about 7 stores throughout St. Catharines, ON.  It was too much.  Too many long hours and too much stress. So he quit.

He then became the manager of an Avondale convenience store with a full service gas bar.  But I guess he missed the pizza…and in 2009, he opened up a tiny pizza shop inside of the convenience store!

He called it…

On the Marc Pizza

(My dad’s name is Marc Bougie.  Get it? “on the Marc?” If you click on the picture you can see the little bullseye on the pizza)

I’m so proud of my dad for making such a big change, and for doing what he does best.  Nobody makes pizza like my dad. He’s the best.

If you’re ever in St. Catharines, ON, visit my dad’s store and buy a slice.

  1. Okay, well… Pizza is among my favorite foods, and Toronto is among my favorite cities. And these days, my very favorite stories are about people who reinvent themselves career-wise. Bravo to your Dad. I’m sure figuring out how to do what he loves has offered many inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

  3. What a cool story of inspiration and being bold enough to understand that a dead-end feeling job is just that. If I ever get to ON, I’m sure to zero in on the Marc.

  4. This is awesome. Yay for your Dad! If I am ever remotely near him… I would go order some. Woot! Woot!
