busyness and touring resolutions

playing drums with julie fader

holy busy week!

I had a great time playing with Julie Fader at The Dakota on Wednesday.  What an awesome band! It’s not that often that I get a chance to play with new people in this town.  New to me, that is.  You’d think that 4 or 5 guitars on stage would just be chaos, but these guys know how to make it work.  The right mix of atmosphere, texture and parts.

Aside from myself on drums (and a bit of lap steel), Julie’s band features Aaron Goldstein (pedal steel), Cam Malcom (guitar), Pete Hall (guitar, lap steel, vocals), Graham Walsh (guitar, keys), and Adam Melnick (bass).

I’m looking forward to playing with Julie and her awesome band again on Sept 17th at The DrakeGet her album! It’s really good.

Other fun stuff: I got to play on TV twice this week!  On Tuesday I played with Amy Millan on MTV live, and on Wednesday we did Canada AM.  We performed “Low Sail” on both shows.  Well, on MTV  we actually played 3 songs, but only one went live to air, and the other 2 (“Towers” and “Bruised Ghosts”) were taped for their website only.  You can watch the video here (apparently only in Canada, though, sorry!)

touring resolutions

We’re getting excited to go on tour again.  This is the fun period right before the tour when everyone is casually stating their touring resolutions:  less drinking, running every day, yoga, practicing, learning a new language, eating well“This time will be different.” Right?  *wink*

Honestly, though, when we toured across Canada in 2006 I did getting some running in.  And yes, I am stating my official tour resolution now:

I will run every day on tour between Oct 14-Nov 9.

There. I said it.  Hold me accountable.
