I play an average of 15 shows every month, mostly as a sideman, but sometimes under my own name.
Whenever I have my own show to promote, I’m conflicted.
I want to let people know about it without being annoying. If anything, I tend to under-promote my gigs.
I’ve talked about practicing squeaky clean email etiquette before, but it’s still an ongoing struggle for me.
So I set guidelines for myself. Guidelines about how much to post, where to post certain things, and how often. I do this because I get overwhelmed with the amount of invites and emails I get about gigs, so I hesitate to add to that noise.
If you’re interested in hearing about my upcoming gigs, these are the best ways to find out:
- click the shows tab at the top of my site (there’s an RSS button at the bottom, too, if you really want to keep up to date)
- subscribe to my monthly email newsletter (I only send one email each month)
- visit my facebook “fan” page (I post more music related stuff than I do on my personal page)
upcoming shows
So….I’ll be playing with my full band (Dafydd Hughes-keys, Paul Mathew-bass, Kieran Adams -drums) this Thursday (April 8th) at The Rivoli, 9:30 pm. We’re opening for Miss Emily Brown.
Here’s the facebook event
I’d be interested to hear about how you promote your gigs. Do you hesitate to post about gigs, too?
