I’m back home after visiting 19 different cities throughout North America. It’s always a good idea to clear your schedule for at least one full day of post-tour recovery, and this is my full day to veg out and just do nothing…which is why this blog post is coming in so late in the day! I guess it’s not so much “recovering” that I need do, more like re-adjusting.
There is no lobby call. No 7 hour drive. No load-in. No sound check. No show. No load out. No hotel. Now I’m at home and I have to decide moment to moment what I want to work on. My brain has been on auto-pilot all month, and now I’m back at the helm.
Physically, I don’t feel too bad. Although we sometimes refer to touring as “Retox,” this time we christened the tour “Matour,” vowing to stay as sane and healthy as possible.
I made my resolution back in September to run every day on tour, and I’m happy to say I stuck with it. I did take a few days off only when I got sick with a nasty cold, and when I had a chance to ride my bike for a few hours instead.
More than any other habit (ok…aside from drinking water), daily running kept me sane for the past month.
It feels really good to be back home. I know Toronto will forgive me for having brief love affairs with San Francisco, and New York…and those one-night-stands with Chicago and Washington.
always visit the planetarium
I sneakily snapped the picture above from inside the Einstein Planetarium at The Smithsonian in Washington. I love to visit planetariums on tour because it keeps everything in perspective. We’re all under the same stars and we’re all on this little planet orbiting one bright star.
If you want to catch up on my posts from the tour, here they are in chronological order…
