When I was little, I was really into time capsules. I’ve buried so many things in the park by my parent’s house. I also wrote letters to my future self. One of these letters I know is hiding behind the bathroom mirror at my parents’ house. There’s a space just big enough to slip a piece of paper through behind the mirror, but I’d have to get the toolbox out to get the mirror down and retrieve the letter.
So I leave it there.
One day the mirror will come down and I’ll get to read the letter from my 8 year old self.
Today’s Reverb10 prompt:
Imagine yourself five years from now. What advice would you give your current self for the year ahead? (Bonus: Write a note to yourself 10 years ago. What would you tell your younger self?)
I did this as an exercise. 2 letters to myself. Just for me to read.
But before I wrote the letter to my 19 year old self, I remembered that my friend Gene made a video of me that year. So I watched it first, to remember how I was back then.
I’m pretty lucky to have this footage. I wouldn’t be able to recall exactly how I was back then, in my first apartment, talking about what I aspired to do with my life and music.
Have you ever written a letter to yourself, as your future self?
Another fun thing to do: send an email to your future self using this website.
