The hardest thing about touring is being away from the people you love. Thank God for Skype. What would I do without it?
I can only imagine what it was like to be touring 30 years ago, before cell phones and computers.
Today is Day 7 of the tour, and I miss Ali a lot. It’s also a big, important day for her…it’s the Gemini’s! She’s been nominated for Best Performance In A Children’s Or Youth Program. I’m so proud of her, and it’s just icing on the cake if she wins.
I really wish I could be there with her today. Instead, I’ll be on the road from Saskatoon to Calgary.
The title of this post popped into my head as I started writing it, and so I thought it would be appropriate to include a home recording I made of myself playing Little Feat’s “Long Distance Love.” . I recorded this for no real reason. I used to do this more when I was just starting to play the guitar – I’d sit in my room and record my own cover versions of my favourite tunes. A few years ago, “Long Distance Love” inspired me to sit at home and record my own version…
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
You can hear my roommate doing the dishes in the background – actually, you can layers upon layers of dishes because I did a bunch of overdubs. Not sure why I was recording in the kitchen, though.
