Merry Christmas, Everything’s OK.

Writing from my old bedroom at my parents’ house.  It’s Christmas morning and everyone is sleeping in.  I meant to write yesterday’s post on the train, but forgot to bring the internet in my pocket.  And then this morning I remembered tethering!

So I’ll combine yesterday’s Reverb10 prompt with today’s.

Dec 24th – Everything’s OK. What was the best moment that could serve as proof that everything is going to be alright? And how will you incorporate that discovery into the year ahead? (Kate Inglis)

Dec 25th – Photo – a present to yourself.  Sift through all the photos of you from the past year.  Choose one that nest captures you; either who you are, or who you strive to be. Find the shot of you that is worth a thousand words. Share the image, who shot it, where, and what it best reveals about you. (Tracey Clark)

I remember having the thought at a gig this year, that no matter what else happens in life, as impermanent as everything is, I’ll always have music and music will always be the thing that grounds me.

This picture, taken at my CD release party in November, captures a moment when I’m thanking the audience. There should be another word for the type of gratitude you feel for an audience. It’s beyond ordinary gratitude.

I’m most often in the shadows on stage, supporting someone else and the shyly walking off stage at the point when the band leader thanks the audience.

This photo captures the one moment this year when it was my turn to thank the audience.

With music, everything’s OK.

Merry Christmas!
