The Making Of Aloha Supreme: Hammy’s Revenge

Day 1

“Hammy’s Revenge”

The name came first.  Heather, who tends the bar every Monday night at The Tranzac, mistakenly referred to “Hammy’s Secret Life” as “Hammy’s Revenge.”

Sounded like a good title to me!  So I wrote this tune for Heather.

(Oh – by the way, this is the story behind Hammy.)

Here’s the original demo, recorded at home on my loop station…

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The version we recorded yesterday features Andrew Downing (cello), Julia Hambleton (clarinet) and myself on acoustic guitar.  This will be the only tune on the album without lap steel.  I wanted to keep it all acoustic so that the three of us could play at the same time…in the same room…without headphones!

I’m really happy with what we got down yesterday.  Now the fun part…listening and picking the best performance.
