For more than two years now, my good friend Dafydd Hughes and I have been playing a weekly gig under the name This Is Awesome.
I just realized that I’ve never written a blog post about it!
OK. So I need to fill you in on the details.
Who?
Dafydd Hughes (wurlitzer)
…and Me (guitar, lap steel)
What?
Our repertoire consists of mostly originals. We let our audience choose what they want to hear. Here’s the list we pass around from table to table:
When?
Every Monday at 7 pm, unless otherwise noted. Check my shows page for details.

Because we occasionally do something extra special, like perform the entire Pet Sounds album.
Oh – and we’ll be playing the music of Hall & Oates on May 24th. I’ll remind you about that one in a couple weeks.

Awesome.
This is something I would like to do in my future. Have a weekly gig at an establishment. Any tips on setting this up?
@joseph -weekly gigs are great. There’s no better way to develop repertoire. It’s not easy to get people out every week, though.
My advice: start with a monthly thing for a while, and if it’s successful, talk to the venue about making it weekly.
Great idea. Start with something a little more manageable and give the audience time to breath. You’re so smart! Haha!
